Patient Preparation
Patient should blow nose prior to sample collection.
Transport Temperature
Ambient/ Room Temperature.
Specimen Stability
- NP swab specimens in transport media can be stored at room temperature (15-30°C) for up to 4 hours before running the test.
- NP swab specimens in transport media can be stored refrigerated (2-8°C) for 72 hours.
- Past 72 hours specimens must be frozen at ≥-70°C until tested.
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
- Not in correct collection media
- Not a nasopharyngeal (NP) swab
- Is past stability
- Is a calcium alginate or cotton swab
- Does NOT contain a collection swab
- Leaky transport tube
