Message
The following list of medications and x-ray diagnostic aids may interfere with the test: iron, bismuth, oil (castor or mineral), particulate substances (metamucil or others), barium, gallbladder dye, iodine preparations, anti-amoebic drugs. Testing may be performed depending on the amount of contaminating material.

Preserved stool (Stool placed in a single Total Fix™ Ova and Parasite Transport Vial)

Specimen Stability
Preserved stool specimens: Stool must be placed into an Ova and Parasite Transport vial (Total Fix™) within 2 hours of colleciton.
DO NOT refrigerate specimens.
DO NOT place specimens on ice.

Clinical Significance
Cyclospora cayetanensis and Cystoisospora belli (formerly Isospora belli) are coccidian parasites which cause malaise, low grade fever, and diarrhea. Fatique, anorexia, vomiting, myalgia and weight loss may also occur. The clinical presentation for those patients infected with either disease is similar.
