Instructions
  1. Using sterile technique, arrange slides with frosted label up.
  2. Aspirated material is placed by small droplets onto each slide. Using a separate clean slide, smear the material between the 2 slides smoothly and evenly.
  3. Immediately place 1 of each pair of smeared slides into a Coplin jar containing 95% ethanol, allow the other slide to air dry.
  4. Ask the personnel to rinse the syringe into a container of CytoLyte®. solution. This material will be used to make additional preparations using the ThinPrep method and/or a cell block.
  5. Place any apparent tissue fragments into the CytoLyte®. solution as well for processing as a cell block.
  6. Keep separate and label distinctively, each pass and/or aspirates from different collection sites.
Notes:
  1. Normally 5 passes done per site. 3 passes are put onto slides and washed in CytoLyte®, the remaining two passes are put directly into Afirma for additional testing.
  2. Specimen source and Clinical History/Diagnosis is required on request form for processing.
  3. Label containers (not the lid) with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR) date and time of collection, and specimen source.
  4. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
  5. NOCO Staff - Please send Cytology Order Requisision to Summit Pathology with specimen.
