Instructions
Urine:
- For diagnosis of pneumonia
- Collect random urine in a sterile container.
- Label container (not the lid) with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR), specimen source, and date and time of collection
- Note: If patient has received pneumococcal vaccine within 5 days of testing, this may cause false positive results in urine.
CSF:
- For diagnosis of meningitis
- Send 0.2-1 ml of spinal fluid in a screw-capped, sterile container
- Label container with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR), specimen source, and date and time of collection
