Instructions
Urine:
  • For diagnosis of pneumonia
  • Collect random urine in a sterile container.
  • Label container (not the lid) with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR), specimen source, and date and time of collection
    • Note: If patient has received pneumococcal vaccine within 5 days of testing, this may cause false positive results in urine.

CSF:

  • For diagnosis of meningitis
  • Send 0.2-1 ml of spinal fluid in a screw-capped, sterile container
  • Label container with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR), specimen source, and date and time of collection
