Instructions
Endocervix
  • Remove excess mucus from cervical os and surrounding mucosa using cleaning swab (white shaft). Discard this swab.
  • Insert specimen collection swab (blue shaft) into endocervical canal.
  • Gently rotate swab clockwise for 10 to 30 seconds in endocervical canal to ensure adequate sampling.
  • Withdraw swab carefully; avoid any contact with vaginal mucosa.
  • Remove cap from swab specimen transport tube and immediately place specimen collection swab into transport tube.
  • Carefully break swab shaft at score line; use care to avoid splashing of contents.
  • Recap swab specimen transport tube tightly.

Urethra (Males Only)

  • Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.
  • Insert specimen collection swab (blue shaft swab in package with green printing)2 cm to 4 cm into urethra.
  • Gently rotate swab clockwise for 2 to 3 seconds in urethra to ensure adequate sampling.
  • Withdraw swab carefully.
  • Remove cap from swab specimen transport tube and immediately place specimen collection swab into specimen transport tube.
  • Carefully break swab shaft at score line; use care to avoid splashing of contents.
  • Recap swab specimen transport tube tightly.

Urine (Males and Females)

  • Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.
  • Collection of larger volumes of urine may result in specimen dilution that may reduce test sensitivity. Female patients should not cleanse labial area prior to providing specimen.
  • Remove cap and transfer 2 mL of urine into urine specimen transport tube using disposable pipette provided. Correct volume of urine has been added when fluid level is between black fill lines on urine transport tube label.
  • Recap urine specimen transport tube tightly.
    • Note: Specimen must be received within 24 hours of collection if APTIMA® Urine transport tube is not used.
Specimen source is required.
Label container with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR), and date and time of collection.
Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Send specimen refrigerated or ambient.
Note: This test should not be used for diagnosis of genital tract infection in prepubertal children (<14 years), or for evaluation of sexual abuse or test of cure.
