Instructions
Endocervix
Label container with two patient identifiers (full name, DOB or MR), and date and time of collection.
Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Send specimen refrigerated or ambient.
Note: This test should not be used for diagnosis of genital tract infection in prepubertal children (<14 years), or for evaluation of sexual abuse or test of cure.
- Remove excess mucus from cervical os and surrounding mucosa using cleaning swab (white shaft). Discard this swab.
- Insert specimen collection swab (blue shaft) into endocervical canal.
- Gently rotate swab clockwise for 10 to 30 seconds in endocervical canal to ensure adequate sampling.
- Withdraw swab carefully; avoid any contact with vaginal mucosa.
- Remove cap from swab specimen transport tube and immediately place specimen collection swab into transport tube.
- Carefully break swab shaft at score line; use care to avoid splashing of contents.
- Recap swab specimen transport tube tightly.
- Note: While the presence of mucus does not interfere with detection of Chlamydia trachomatis by APTIMA®, if excess mucus is not removed, collection of cells infected with Chlamydia trachomatis is not ensured.
- Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.
- Insert specimen collection swab (blue shaft swab in package with green printing) 2 cm to 4 cm into urethra.
- Gently rotate swab clockwise for 2 to 3 seconds in urethra to ensure adequate sampling.
- Withdraw swab carefully.
- Remove cap from swab specimen transport tube and immediately place specimen collection swab into specimen transport tube.
- Carefully break swab shaft at score line; use care to avoid splashing of contents.
- Recap swab specimen transport tube tightly.
- Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.
- Collection of larger volumes of urine may result in specimen dilution that may reduce test sensitivity. Female patients should not cleanse labial area prior to providing specimen.
- Remove cap and transfer 2 mL of urine into urine specimen transport tube using disposable pipette provided. Correct volume of urine has been added when fluid level is between black fill lines on urine transport tube label.
- Recap urine specimen transport tube tightly.
- Note: Specimen must be received within 24 hours of collection if APTIMA® Urine transport tube is not used.
