Message
This test can be done on Peritoneal/Ascites Fluid, Pleural Fluid, and Pericardial Fluid. Any other fluid type must be sent to a reference laboratory.
This test is performed at NCMC for NLMC, BFCMC, EMCH, SRMC and OCH.

Preferred Specimen
Hospital Nursing Unit Collections: Use a sterile container for sample collection.
 
Labs Sending to Hub Sites
  • Preferred Specimen: Red-top vacutainer or other tube without additives or separators.
  • NOTE for Hub Sites: EDTA and Lithium Heparin additives should not be rejected. If the sample arrives in an unspun separator tube, transfer it to a plain tube with no separator before centrifugation.

  • Centrifuge to remove any cellular material.
  • Indicate specimen source.
