Instructions
Wrap container in alumuninum foil to protect from light. Do not use preservatives.
Do not use first morning void, late evening specimen (after 8 p.m.), or specimen after excessive fluid intake. Keep refrigerated and transport refrigerated (cold packs).

Clinical Significance
ALA is a precursor to uroporphyrin, coproporphyrin, and protoporphyrin. Concentrations of ALA are greatly increased in many patients with acute neurological forms of porphyrias and in some patients with chronic alcohol abuse.
