Placenta for Routine Culture: Swab of placenta (eSwab or culturette) or actual tissue sample
Placenta for Anaerobic Culture: Tissue or eSwab or swabs placed in anaerobic transport


Instructions
Valid Sources:
Fetal Side Placenta
Maternal Side Placenta


Specimen Stability
For Tissue: Send to the Lab within 30 minutes of collection.
For Swabs: Send to the Lab within 2 hours of collection.
DO NOT refrigerate specimens.
DO NOT place specimens on ice.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Unacceptable specimens:
Routine culture swabs for anaerobic culture
Swabs in Viral Transport Medium
Excessive transport time of tissue samples
