Instructions
  • Draw specimen and immediately place on ice, if inpatient or emergency room patient send on ice.
  • Must be received in lab within 90 minutes.
  • If testing cannot be performed within 90 minutes, draw in Grey top NaF/KOx, separate and freeze plasma.


Specimen Stability
Ambient/On Ice 90 minutes
Ambient/On Ice 8 hours
Frozen 7 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
DO NOT reject specimen if received within 90 minutes if not on ice.
Reject gross hemolysis. Reject if specimen is received >30 minutes from time drawn.
Reject if NaF/KOx specimen is not separated and frozen.
