Clinical Significance
Colonization with H. pylori is associated with increased risk of patients developing gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric adenocarcinoma. Stool antigen testing provides a sensitive measure of infection including during and after treatment. If the stool is unformed or watery, the sensitivity is reduced as the antigen concentration is diluted.
Unlike the H. pylori breath test, testing can be done on pediatric patients under the age of 3.
