Preferred Specimen
Peritoneal/ascites fluid. Collect in sterile container, no additives. Send to laboratory immediately upon collection. Cellular elements may begin to deteriorate within 2 hours of collection at room temperature.
Minimum Volume
1 mL of fluid is generally required for each test ordered

Peritoneal lavage, peritoneal dialysate.
