Cell count and differential, chemistries as selected within powerplan, Microbiology as selected within powerplan, cytology as selected within powerplan. 


Preferred Specimen
Peritoneal/ascites fluid. Collect in sterile container, no additives. Send to laboratory immediately upon collection. Cellular elements may begin to deteriorate within 2 hours of collection at room temperature. 


Minimum Volume
1 mL of fluid is generally required for each test ordered


Other Acceptable Specimens
Peritoneal lavage, peritoneal dialysate.

Room temp or refrigerated


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Do not freeze


Clinical Significance
Laboratory testing on peritoneal fluid aids in a range of differential diagnosis and monitoring of disease. See individual tests within powerplan.
