Whole blood collected in EDTA capillary tubes, raised bottom tubes, or 6 mL pink EDTA tubes


Instructions
The specimen may be collected at any time.  However, if collection is timed during a period of chills and fever, there is a better chance of obtaining a positive result.  Smears should be made within one hour of the venipuncture.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Clotted samples
Grossly hemolyzed samples
