Instructions
When drawing a serum for a 24 hour creatinine clearance, use the following guidelines:
  • For out patients, draw blood 24 hours before collection, during collection, or 24 hours after collection is complete.
  • For in patients, draw blood during or <2 hours after collection is complete.
Urine specimens should be collected into a clean, leak proof container.  If urine must be collected with a preservative for other analytes, 6N HCl or Boric acid can be used.


Specimen Stability
Serum creatinine is stable for:
  • 7 days refrigerated (2 - 8oC)
  • Indefinitely when frozen (<=-20oC)
Urine creatinine is stable for:
  • 2 days room temperature (20 - 25oC)
  • 6 days refrigerated (4 - 8oC)
