Urea Nitrogen - Blood

Message
Measurements of urea nitrogen are used in the diagnosis and treatment of certain renal and metabolic disorders.  Urea nitrogen makes up approximately 75% of the total nonprotein nitrogen (NPN) fraction of the blood.

Specimen Stability
Urea Nitrogen is stable in serum or plasma for:
  • 24 hours at room temperature (15 - 25oC)
  • several days refrigerated (2 - 8oC)
  • 2 - 3 months when frozen )<=-20oC)
