The ESR is helpful in revealing inflammatory activity and in monitoring the progress of conditions associated with acute and chronic inflammation, including infections, cancers, and autoimmune diseases.

Specimen Stability
Samples stored refrigerated (2 - 8oC) with normal results may be analyzed up to 48 hours without significant loss of differential stability.
Microtainers should be analyzed within 4 hours of collection.
Sample stability at room temperature is 24 hours for samples collected in 4 mL EDTA tubes.
