Cancer Antigen 19-9

Message
Initially found in colorectal cancer patients, the CA 19-9 antigen has also been identified in patients with pancreatic, bile duct, hepatocellular, stomach, and esophageal cancers.  Non-cancerous conditions that may elevate CA 19-9 antigen levels include cirrhosis, cholangitis, hepatitis, pancreatitis,and non-malignant gastrointestinal diseases.

2.0 mL serum collected in a gold serum separator tube (SST)

2.0 mL serum collected in an orange rapid clot serum separator tube (RCT)


Specimen Stability
Store centrifuged samples tightly stoppered at room temperature 15 - 30oC for no longer than eight hours.  If the assay will not be completed within eight hours, refrigerate the samples at 2 - 8oC.  If the assay will not be completed within 48 hours, or for shipment of samples, freeze serum at -20oC or colder.

Limitations
High dose Biotin Supplementation can cause falsely increased or decreased results.
