Preferred Specimen
Submit only 1 of the following specimens: Plasma
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Spin specimen down and send 3 to 5 mL of plasma.
Note: 1. Include diagnosis, history of transfusions, pregnancy, and drug therapy on request form.
2. Indicate plasma.
3. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube. Spin specimen down and send 5 to 10 mL of serum.
Note: 1. Include diagnosis, history of transfusions, pregnancy, and drug therapy on request form.
2. Indicate serum.
3. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
