Preferred Specimen
Acceptable specimens:
Vaginal / Rectal Copan swab
1. Only intrapartum samples will be accepted.
2. Specimen must be collected before any lubricant is
used. Remove excessive secretions or
discharge. Collect specimen by inserting
both COPAN swabs into patient's vagina and gently
rotate. Using the same swabs, gently insert past the
anal spinchter and gently rotate.
3. Label specimen appropriately.
