Preferred Specimen
Testing should be performed within 8 hours of draw. Draw blood in a blue-top (sodium citrate) tube. Spin specimen down twice and send 1 mL of plasma in plastic vial. If testing is delayed plasma should be placed in a tightly-sealing tube.
NOTE:  If patient is on heparin therapy, plasma will only be stable for 2 hours at room temperature.
