Preferred Specimen
Submit only 1 of the following specimens: Plasma
Draw blood in a green-top (lithium heparin) tube or a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Specimen must be collected on ice. Spin specimen down within 1 hour of draw, promptly separate plasma from cells, and send 0.5 mL of plasma in plastic vial.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube. Spin specimen down within 1 hour of draw, promptly separate serum from cells, and send 0.5 mL of serum in plastic vial.
Note: 1. Indicate serum.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
