Note: Microscopics are not routinely performed on all urinalysis specimens. A microscopic exam is performed on those specimens that are positive for blood, nitrites, leukocytes, or with a 1+ or greater protein.

MICROSCOPIC

WBC: 0-5/HPF

RBC: none seen/HPF

Bacteria: not normally seen

Critical values: positive ketone and/or sugars in a newborn

Combination of strongly positive test results for glucose and
ketones in urine
