Preferred Specimen
Plasma and serum are required.


Plasma for Antithrombin III; D-Dimer, Quantitative;
Fibrinogen; PT; and PTT


Draw blood in a blue-top (sodium citrate) tube. Spin specimen
down and send 4 mL of plasma in plastic vial.

Note: 1. Indicate plasma
for antithrombin III; D-Dimer, quantitative; fibrinogen;
Thrombin Time; PT; and PTT.

2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).


Serum for LDH

Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube. Spin specimen down and send
1 mL of serum.

Note: 1. Indicate serum for LDH.

2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).


Whole Blood for CBC

Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube, and send 3 mL (minimum
volume: 1 mL) of whole blood.

Note: 1. Indicate whole blood for CBC.

2. Label specimen appropriately (whole blood).
