Preferred Specimen
Plasma and serum are required.
Plasma for Antithrombin III; D-Dimer, Quantitative;
Fibrinogen; PT; and PTT
Draw blood in a blue-top (sodium citrate) tube. Spin specimen
down and send 4 mL of plasma in plastic vial.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma
for antithrombin III; D-Dimer, quantitative; fibrinogen;
Thrombin Time; PT; and PTT.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum for LDH
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube. Spin specimen down and send
1 mL of serum.
Note: 1. Indicate serum for LDH.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Whole Blood for CBC
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube, and send 3 mL (minimum
volume: 1 mL) of whole blood.
Note: 1. Indicate whole blood for CBC.
2. Label specimen appropriately (whole blood).
