Preferred Specimen
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Blood
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube, and send 3 to 5 mL of whole blood.
Note: 1. Indicate whole blood.
2. Label specimen appropriately (whole blood).
3. Include diagnosis on request form.
Plasma
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Spin specimen down and send 3 to 5 mL of plasma.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
3. Include diagnosis on request form.
Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube. Spin specimen down and send 5 to 10 mL of serum.
Note: 1. Indicate serum.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
3. Include diagnosis on request form.


Transport Temperature
Refrigerate

Indirect Coombs  
Note:  Antibody identification and antibody titer will be performed if indirect Coombs is positive.
