Preferred Specimen
Submit only 1 of the following specimens: Pinworm Collection Paddle
1. Obtain specimen in early a.m. before rising and prior to bathing and defecation.
2. Separate buttocks and press tacky surface against several areas of perianal region.
3. Return pinworm paddle to transport tube.
4. Label tube with patient's name, date and time of collection, and type of specimen.
Scotch Tape Method
Using clear Scotch tape, collect specimen as follows:
1. Obtain specimen in early a.m. before rising and prior to bathing and defecation.
2. Separate buttocks and press sticky side of tape against several areas of perianal region.
3. Place tape on a clear glass slide.
4. Label slide with patient's name, date and time of collection, and type of specimen.
Note: Specimen collected using frosted tape is not acceptable.
