Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Received room temperature • Gross hemolysis • Lipemia • Icteric • Serum separator tube (SST)
Methodology
Immunoassay (IA)
Setup Schedule
Set up: Daily; Report available: 1 day
Limitations
When heparin is stopped, antibody that may have been present disappears within weeks to months.
Reference Range
Heparin-Induced Platelet Antibody | Negative |
Patient O.D. | ≤0.300 OD Units |
Clinical Significance
Heparin can induce thrombocytopenia, a decreased platelet count, due to antibody stimulation. False positive results may be due to immune complexes. False negative results may be due to low titer, low avidity antibodies.
