The presence of mumps IgG antibody suggests immunization or past or current infection with mumps virus.

Titer Interpretation
<1:20 Antibody not detected
≥1:20 Antibody detected
The presence of IgM antibody to mumps typically indicates recent or current mumps infection; however, false positive results may occur due to antibody cross reactivity to parainfluenza virus.


Clinical Significance
Mumps is an acute, usually self-limited systemic illness characterized by parotiditis, high fever and fatigue. One third of infections are asymptomatic.
