Limitations
Viral integration is not always discovered in invasive carcinomas of the cervix. A minority of women infected with oncogenic types actually go on to develop neoplasia.

Clinical Significance
HPV is the causative agent of cervical dysplasia and cervical carcinoma. This assay only detects high-risk HPV types, 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59 and 68.
