Instructions
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:|Abscess,drainage,purulent material, or wound|Specimen should be obtained by using a sterile needle and syringe. Place specimen in a screw-capped, sterile container after collection. If arriving in a syringe, the needle must be removed prior to transportation to LabFirst Laboratory. Label container with patient's name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.|Note: Order anaerobe culture separately. Specimen source is required on request form and on specimen label for processing.|Swab specimen|Prepare site: wash wound margins well with antiseptic. Use a culturette swab to obtain specimen. Obtain swab specimen from a wound and/or drainage. Return swab to sterile culturette and crush ampule to ensure specimen preservation. Submit 2 swabs if gram stain is to be performed. Label tube with patient's name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature.|Note: Specimen source is required on request form and specimen label for processing.
