Clinical Significance
A marker of prostate cancer. Overexpression of ERG protein correlates with TMPRSS2-ERG chromosomal translocation, which are seen in 50-70% of prostate carcinomas. ERG is not expressed in benign prostatic epithelium but can be expressed in PIN. Among other tumor types, ERG is a marker of vascular tumors but is only rarely seen in carcinomas from other tissue sites.
