Clinical Significance
Benzene is used in the manufacturing of medicinal chemicals, dyes, artificial leathers, linoleum, varnishes, and lacquers. It may also be used as a solvent for waxes, resins, oils, and a component of gasoline. Benzene is a known carcinogen. Symptoms of exposure include nausea, blistering of the skin, dermatitis from skin contact, stomach pain, and vomiting.
