Preferred Specimen
4 mL whole blood collected in a sodium/fluoride (gray-top) tube


Patient Preparation
A fasting sample is required.

Minimum Volume
1 mL


Instructions
4 mL whole blood (gray-top tube) sodium fluoride, drawn from fasting patient without use of tourniquet and immediately mixed with 4 mL ice-cold 7% (w/v) Perchloric Acid.
Let mixture stand for 10 minutes and centrifuge. Submit supernatant fluid for assay. Please specify volumes of blood and Perchloric Acid used
