Clinical Significance
Antigliadin antibody (AGA) is present in the serum of patients with Celiac Disease (or Sprue) which is a hypersensitivity to gluten in the diet (wheat). There are two types of antibodies that may be measures: IgA and IgG. IgA antibody is the most specific for Celiac Disease. However, a relatively high percentage of patients with this disease also have an IgA deficiency. In these patients, the IgG antibody can be helpful in helping diagnose the disease.
