Premier Hospital samples must be maintained in upright position during transportation to lab and interval until testing is complete. Samples must be transported to MVH lab within 3 hours of collection.

2 Greiner vacuette 3.2 % Sodium Citrated blue cap 2.0 mL tubes
Vacuette blue cap tubes have a white inner ring on top of a dark gray stopper. Vacuette blue caps tubes also display a large arrow (►) on the side of the test tube to indicate the fill line.

Instructions
Use a 20 or 21 gauge needle.
Draw 3.0 mL sodium citrated light blue top tube discard tube first followed by 2 Greiner vacuette 2.0 ml blue top tubes.
Mix 5 times after collection.
Once mixed immediately place blue top tubes into gray foam tube holder strip and Maintain Standing upright at all times at room temperature.

Maintain samples standing upright at all times at room temperature. Avoid shaking.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Rejected for hemolysis, clotted, improper fill, incorrect specimen type, frozen or centrifuged, refrigerated blood, expired test tubes, > 4 hours post collection, sent through pneumatic tube system.

Limitations
5 mL blood discard needed in an arm with in-dwelling line or port.
Clinical Significance
Qualitative test to aid in the detection of a platelet dysfunction due to aspirin ingestion as well as a functional assay to determine if patient sample is within therapeutic range for drug therapies.
