Preferred Specimen
2 mL serum SST or Red top tube and 6 mL whole blood K2EDTA (lavender top) or two 3 mL K2EDTA (lavender top) tube(s).
Instructions
SST or Red top = Avoid hemolysis. Invert a minimum of 5 times, then allow to clot in an upright position for 30 minutes. Centrifuge the the tube for at least 10 minutes. Keep tightly stoppered.
K2EDTA = (For STAT HIV test) Avoid hemolysis. Gently invert 10 times.
