Instructions
Avoid hemolysis. Allow to clot in an upright position for 30 minutes. Centrifuge 10 minutes. Keep tightly stoppered.


Transport Container
Original tube preferred, may be sent in a screw-top transfer tube.

Refrigerated


Specimen Stability
Room Temperature = 8 hours
Refrigerated = 5 days
Frozen = 24 weeks


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Hemolysis, Lipemia, incorrect specimen type, insufficient sample volume, improper storage conditions, exceeds specimen stability guidelines, contaminated sample.

Clinical Significance
The CA 125 level can provide prognostic information in the follow-up management of patients with ovarian carcinoma.The assay should be used as an adjunctive test in the management of ovarian cancer patients. CA 125 is not recommended as a cancer screening procedure to detect cancer in the general population.
