Preferred Specimen
Unpreserved fecal specimen, or specimen submitted in Ova and Parasite PVA container.  (minimum Ratio of 1 part feces: 3 parts preservative: 1 gram of fresh specimen)
 


Transport Container
Ova/Parasite Kit-ParaPak


Transport Temperature
Room Temperature for PVA preservative.


Specimen Stability
Room Temperature = Several weeks in PVA preservative or 1 hour if unpreserved
Refrigerated = n/a
Frozen = unacceptable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Barium and bismuth sulfate can interfere with procedure. Rejected for frozen specimen.
