Preferred Specimen
Obtain specimen on swab.


Instructions
Inoculate Jembec plate with a swab at the time the sample is collected.  Insert CO2 pellet into the well in the plate and replace lid.  Immediately put into zip-lock bag and seal.


Transport Container
GC Culture Plates (Jembec plate)


Transport Temperature
Room Temperature. Avoid temperature extremes.


Specimen Stability
Room Temperature = 1 day
Refrigerated = unacceptable
Frozen = unacceptable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Specimen rejected if not on Jembec Plate. Plates which are dried out or expired will be rejected, to order new plates contact Client Service Department (937-297-8260 or 1-800-686-2252 option 1) . Keep Jembec Plates refrigerated until used.

Clinical Significance
Neisseria gonorrhoeae is considered a pathogen whenever isolated and its identification is important in initiating appropriate therapy to prevent the spread of the infection as well as the serious sequelae.
