Centrifuge for complete separation of serum and red cells.

Refrigerate up to 2 days; otherwise freeze


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
The following conditions will result in a rejected sample:
  • Hemolyzed samples
  • Aliquoted samples - do not open tube

Clinical Significance
Half of the serum calcium is metabolically active and called ionized calcium. Ionized calcium is measured when other factors complicate the interpretation of the normal serum calcium test.
