Sample must be stool collected in a clean, dry specimen container. Samples collected from a diaper must be transferred to a clean, dry specimen container. DO NOT SEND DIAPER.

- Stools with meconium cannot be tested.
- Stools with high levels of blood may invalidate test results. Request for recollection will be made.

Clinical Significance
Acute gastroenteritis, especially in pediatric patients 6-24 months, can produce severe illness requiring physician intervention. Asymptomatic adults can be carriers of the disease. Duration of infection is 1-10 days with the greatest number of viral particles evident during days 3-5. This test is used for the rapid detection of rotavirus antigen in stool samples.
