Preferred Specimen

Collection instructions found below in Additional Information. There is no specific order for blood collection, however a commonly used fill order is Nil (gray), TB1 (green), TB2 (yellow) and then Mitogen (lavender).

Minimum Volume

There is a small black line on the side of the tube label that indicates the 1mL fill line. Grossly underfilled or overfilled tubes will be rejected.

Specimen Stability

Samples must be maintained at room temperature (17 - 27°C or 62.6 - 80.6°F) and arrive at the testing location within 16 hours of collection.
Once incubated, sample stability can be extended to 72 hours.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

The following conditions will result in a rejected sample:

Samples not collected in the Quantiferon Collection Kit
Samples greater than 16 hours old
Samples refrigerated or frozen
Severe hemolysis
Underfilled or overfilled tubes

Clinical Significance

QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus is an in vitro diagnotic test that aids in the detection of M. tuberculosis infection. QFT is an interferon gamma (IFN gamma) release assay (IGRA) which measures the T-cell CD4 and CD8 mediated response to specific TB antigens in whole blood. This test is intended for use in conjunction with risk assessment, radiography, and other medical and diagnostic evaluations.
