- Plasma must be separated from cells within two hours of collection.
- If gel-separator tube is not used, transfer plasma into a transfer tube.
- Specimens received uncentrifuged will be rejected.

Instructions
Centrifuge immediately for complete separation of plasma and red cells within 2 hours of collection. If gel-separator tube is not used, aliquot (transfer) plasma into a transfer tube and refrigerate until tested.

Clinical Significance
The function of PTH is to increase the serum concentration of calcium and decrease that of phosphate. The assay is useful in making the diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism, secondary hyperparathyroidism, and a differential diagnosis of hypercalcemia.
