Other Acceptable Specimens
Aliquotted sample submitted in a sterile urine cup will be accepted. Total volume must be provided.
Instructions
Mix the specimen well and measure the 24-Hour volume (RECORD THE TOTAL VOLUME); Pour off 20.0 mL of urine into a separate plastic screw-cap container; Refrigerate if not tested immediately.

Clinical Significance
The American Diabetes Association defines increased urine albumin ecretion as follows:

Because of variability in urinary albumin excretion, ADA recommendations specify that 2-3 specimens, collected within a 3-6 month period, should exhibit abnormality prior to diagnostic consideration.
