Message

Must collect both blue top (Na Citrate) and lavender top (EDTA). 

Blue top 
cannot be shared with other laboratory testing at the time of draw.  However, additional testing on the lavender tube may be performed once CBCBL is verified.

1 Blue tube (Sodium Citrate) and
1 Lavender tube (EDTA)


Minimum Volume
  • 1mL whole blood EDTA
  • Sodium Citrate tube must be filled to the etched line


Instructions
Do not centrifuge; Refrigerate until testing.

  • 2-8ºC up to 24 hours


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Quantity not sufficient, clotted, or hemolyzed


Methodology
Pulse Measurement technology, Hydrodynamic Focusing, RF (Radio-Frequency) detection, and DC (Direct Current) detection.

Report Available
Within 24 hours of sample collection.

Clinical Significance

This test code is used for patients with prior platelet clumping noted on the CBC.  This test code should not be ordered as a routine screening CBC.
