Send 2-5 slides (=50mm tissue area) or paraffin block and 1 H&E slide with the are of invasive tumor circled. Send tissue block to Molecular in a red Pathology interoffice envelope. AP Request Form must be included with order.

Specimen Stability

15-30C Cut slides are stable 60 days. Paraffin blocks are stored for 10 years.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

The following conditions will result in a specimen rejection:

Less than 10% tumor cells
Decalcified specimens
Samples sent frozen

Methodology
Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) if reflexed

Setup Schedule

EGFR and KRS performed on Tuesday
ALK and ROS1 performed on Thursday

Report Available

Report available 24-28 hours after set up. Reflex testing will add an additional 24-48 hours.

Reference Range

Mutations not detected.

Clinical Significance

Reflexive panel begin with EGFR and KRAS by PCR for mutation detection. If both EGFR and KRAS demonstrate a wild type status, then reflex testing to ALK and ROS1 by FISH will be performed.
