Message

HIVBP

Alias/See Also
HIV

CPT Codes
87389 Confirmation 86701; 86702

Includes

Testing for the presence of human immunodeficiency virus HIV p24 antigen and HIV type 1 and HIV type 2 antibodies (T-lymphotropic virus antibody).

NOTE:  All positive samples will be repeated x2 and reflexed to an in-house HIV-1 and HIV-2 differential confirmatory test.  In the event the confirmatory results are inconclusive, the sample will automatically be referred for additional confirmation testing by a different methodolgy (TMA).

In some instances, strongly positive HIV-1 samples may cross-react in the HIV-2 detection area of the testing device, thereby precluding the exclusion of HIV-2 co-infection.  If co-infection is suspected, please contact the lab to request HIV-2 supplemental testing (HV2PR).
