(aliquot or transfer urine into a transfer tube and note the total volume)

1 ml aliquot


Instructions
Mix the specimen well and measure the 24-Hour volume (RECORD THE TOTAL VOLUME); Pour off 20 mL of urine into a separate plastic screw-cap container; Refrigerate if not tested immediately.

Refrigerate up to 2 days; otherwise freeze

Clinical Significance
Aids in the differential diagnosis of pancreatitis, since amylase is filtered by the glomeruli and excreted in the urine. Patients are to be instructed to avoid alcoholic beverages.
