Submit the entire collection whenever possible.  The ability to detect malignant cells significantly decreases with low volume specimens.

Instructions
Submit fresh sample.  If specimen will be delayed more that 24 hours, CytoLyt solution may be added.  A minimum 3:1 specimen to CytoLyt ratio is required.

Refrigerate
Samples are discarded after 7 days


Specimen Stability
  • 2-8ºC up to 8 days if preserved with CytoLyt at a minimum of 3:1 ratio (specimen:CytoLyt)

Report available within 1-3 days of receipt at the performing laboratory.


Clinical Significance
Analytic time: 2 days if paraffin block is prepared by Cytology as part of routine cell study.
