Instructions
Centrifuge for complete separation of serum and red cells. If plasma is used, sample must be centrifuged and plasma aliquoted/transferred into a transfer tube. Do not send whole blood. Refrigerate until tested.

Clinical Significance
Thyroperoxidase (TPO) is an enzyme that binds Iodine to thyroglobulin to form the building blocks of thyroid hormones T3 and T4. The detection of antibodies against TPO (anti-TPO) can occur in autoimmune thyroid disease. The detection of TPOAb is an aid in the diagnosis of thyroid autoimmune disorders and enables the physician to differentiate thyroid autoimmune disorders from non-autoimmune goiter or hypothyroidism.
