  • TSH
  • If TSH is abnormal, reflex testing to T4F, T3T, or TPOAB will occur as needed.


Preferred Specimen
1 Gold tube (gel separator)


Minimum Volume
1.5 mL


Other Acceptable Specimens
1 Green tube (Lithium Heparin)


Instructions
Centrifuge within 2 hours of collection. Aliquot serum or plasma into a transfer tube if a gel separator .


Transport Temperature
Refrigerated


Specimen Stability
  • 15-30°C up to 8 hours
  • 2-8°C up to 7 days
  • Frozen samples are stable


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Hemolyzed or lipemic samples will be rejected

EIA (enzyme-linked immunoassay)

Report Available
Within 24 hours of receipt at the performing laboratory.


Reference Range
>0.270 - 4.200 uIU/mL (adult TSH reference range)


Clinical Significance
An order set that can be used as an aid in the diagnosis of hyper- or hypothyroidism.
